Fishing with Rich Wilson, Nov. 2, 2008

Man, what a day....we had a blast but also got the s@#$ scared out of us...more about that later.....Here are some pictures of our afternoon:

Ok, now for the story: We get to the pond and the water is very very low so we had to take my little two man boat off the trailer and drag it to the water. We finally got everything unloaded and taken to the boat. I get my big ol' butt in the front and then Rich swings the boat around so that he can get in it. Everything is going great and we head down the dam to fish. So things are rocking along and we get up to the upper end and come around and I told Rich that the boat was not right and it looked and felt like it was taking on water. So I turned the trolling motor on high and when I did, the front of the boat almost went under water. There was so much water in the boat that it almost sank, so I turned it on low and made our way back to the area where we put the boat in. We got out and tried our best to pull it out of the water but it was to heavy so we had to take all the heavy stuff out of the boat to be able to get it on the bank. Finally after several strains, we managed to get it up on the bank and I pulled the plug. You guessed it, it was like a water hose was running when I pulled the plug. So, as the water is draining, we fished from the bank catching several during this time. So, I get the plug and re-adjust the plug and all is well (or so we thought). We got back in the boat and went back around the dam again. Still at this time, things were fine. So we trolled on around the bank and in the lower corner, we are sitting there fishing, talking and just having a great time then all of a sudden, Rich leans down to get his lure spray and the boat shifted because there was more water in the bottom. Well, when this happened, his rod went flying into the lake and he was grasping everything he could to keep his tail in the boat and from falling into the lake. I immediately leaned back the other way and he was able to bring himself back into the seat. Now, while all that was going on, I had to take my rod and try to catch his rod before it sank to the bottom of the lake to a cold and dark grave. I got it and then Rich grabbed my rod to bring his rod up so that he could grab it. We were lucky, he was able to bring his rod up by the reel on my rod. We had cameras, phones, tackle boxes and all the works in our boat. The only thing that flew out of the boat was a life jacket. Thank goodness, Rich would have had a life jacket to grab onto if he had fallen in the lake. I laughed so that I couldn't hardly breath...that was after the initial shock wore off that we about tumped the boat totally over. So, after all this, we got our minds together and went on fishing. We got to the other side of the lake and I told Rich again that the boat was taking on water so I immediately headed to the bank. We got over there, unloaded the boat and pulled it up on the bank and come to find out, the right front seam had split and this is where the water was coming from. Needless to say, we didn't get back in the boat, we simply fished from the bank until dark. What a great and fun day we had even if we did almost flip the boat and sink several times.
